Seevl.fm: A New Way to Discover Music

Seevl is a chrome plugin that helps you discover new music through Youtube. The site also shows you detailed profiles on all your favorite artists and bands.

A Dream for Music Lovers

With Songza, Pandora, and about a million other music tools, you might be asking yourself why we need yet another one. Seevl is unlike the existing browser music tools out there. When you type an artist or genre into their search engine, you’re presented with a detailed profile that contains a biography, fact-sheet, their top tracks, and similar artists or bands you might like. After “liking” certain genres and artists, Seevl generates a list on your homepage of suggestions, and you can then add songs onto a YouTube playlist. Sounds great, right? But that’s not even their best feature. Their Plugin for Youtube is unlike anything else out there.

Your YouTube Experience: Enhanced

Seevl‘s main function is their Chrome plugin that completely changes your YouTube music experience to help you discover new music. When you go to YouTube, a new search engine is next to the original one that helps you search for music by genre or origin (if, for example, you’re in the mood for something of the Spanish variety). And my favorite feature is their suggestions that are designed specifically for you. Aside from their accuracy, they also explain why they are suggesting these particular artists or groups. Perhaps they’re both from New Orleans, or have the same band member. But I do have one major criticism: The site doesn’t do a great job at fully explaining what it does and why it’s useful. At first glance, it just looks like a detailed artist profile and I really had no clue why I should download it. Even after exploring the site, I still had to do additional research to decide if I wanted to download their plugin. If they’re able to better communicate what sets them apart from other music tools, Seevl has the potential to be the go-to tool for music discovery on YoutTube.
