Turner Classic Movies (TCM) launched its Summer Under The Stars programming schedule throughout the month of August. The schedule included films from different eras in the history of cinema, such as 1937’s True Confession and 1952’s Battle Zone. Each day also corresponded to a different actor or actress, beginning with Jane Fonda on August 1 (and the airing of the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award: A Salute to Jane Fonda.” Other honored actors include Charlie Chaplin, Dick Powell, and Sophia Loren.

Although the TCM programming block has already aired, the network’s site still includes a wealth of information about each actor and their corresponding films. Summer Under The Stars is organized in a way that makes it easy to navigate by day via a bar at the bottom. If you click on a particular day, an image of the actor who was featured on TCM that day is featured. You can then read a detailed biography of the actor or actress, and read through an overview and filmography list as well. There’s also the option to share your thoughts about the actor or actress via social media, and all the associated tweets are collected on TCM’s site. TCM’s campaign was a smart, well-designed way to honor some of cinema’s greatest talents, and hopefully they will do something similar in the future.
