BoatBound connects boat owners with those looking of all experience levels looking for a rental, with or without a captain.
BoatBound allows travelers or casual hobbyists to rent boats directly from owners in various locations around the world. Due to a relatively steep learning curve as well as high costs of equipment and maintenance, the boating world has remained relatively difficult to join. BoatBound makes it easier for everyone to get in on the action, as potential boaters of all experience levels (or those without experience) can find a boat to rent with or without a captain. Boats for many different types of activities — such as fishing, sailing or simply getting from point A to point B — can be found on BoatBound. Boats are typically filtered on the site by three categories: Sail, Power, and Paddle. All boat owners offering their property have also been screened and pre-approved by BoatBound. Insurance for owners is also included in every rental.
BoatBound is similar to sites like AirBnB which have succeeded in the sharing economy by connecting individuals in order to rent property for lower costs than the prices typically set by larger companies. Still, the cost of renting a boat can be relatively high in general, and the prices on BoatBound reflect that. There are enough choices, however, that A search for available boats in Portland, Maine, for instance, returned results that varied from $139/day to $1,000/day. The types of boats available vary just as much as their price points. Searching is made easier by filtering according to the number of people, size, price and amenities needed onboard. Although the need to rent a boat is a specific request, it’s a fun and practical vacation option that’s never been easier than with BoatBound.
