Saylor: Free University-Level Online Education

Saylor is an online education platform offering various courses equivalent to those necessary to obtain an undergraduate college degree completely for free.

Educate Yourself.

The Saylor foundation has a bold but determined vision to make education free and accessible to all. It’s accomplishing its goal through Saylor.org, a website that offers free online courses from a huge selection of subjects. The site currently hosts over 300 self-paced courses, available for anyone that has an internet connection and a desire to learn. Saylor works with consulting college professors, so the quality of the courses mimics that of undergraduate university courses. While the website does not yet confer degrees, they do implement final exams into the coursework and allow students to download a certificate of completion if they successfully complete the course. In addition to the college-level courses, Saylor is beta-testing its courses for students grades 6-12. The offerings for those grades include courses in math and ELA.

A Free Degree (equivalent).

Saylor‘s course offerings are of higher-caliber than many free online education sites around the web, mainly because the classes are coordinated by consulting professors that have worked at established brick-and-mortar institutions such as Princeton, Harvard, the University of California system and NYU. The best part about taking classes designed by prestigious professors such as those is that there is no application process, and all of the courses offered on the site are completely free. The courses are also accessible from anywhere in the world, although they are only offered in the English language. Users can take any amount of courses that they want, but Saylor also offers course plans that mimic a path to a traditional bachelors degree. The quality of the courses as well as the way in which they mimic a traditional college pathway towards a degree (but completely for free!) is what truly sets Saylor apart from and ahead of other websites offering free online education.
