FutureLearn offers a diverse selection of free, high quality online courses from some of the world’s leading universities and other outstanding cultural institutions.
FutureLearn is an online education site with courses from top universities in the UK and internationally. The site has partnered with schools like King’s College London, the University of Nottingham and the University of Auckland New Zealand to host free courses with material selected directly from the courses at the actual institution. FutureLearn is similar to other online education communities, although the quality of universities with which it works is better than most and the courses offered are more varied and interesting. You can complete courses at your own pace, but there is also a community of fellow learners that you can join in discussion and debate in order to make the experience less isolating. FutureLearn doesn’t totally replace the experience of being in a classroom, but it does come close to achieving that goal.
FutureLearn courses widely vary in topic and degree of difficulty. The course titles of classes currently offered range from “Introduction to Ecosystems” to “Study Skills for International Students.” Under each available course, FutureLearn lists when the class begins, how long it lasts, and how long per week you should be expected to focus on the course. You can join courses late, but in order to get the most out of your education it’s best to start along with the rest of the students. Although the site is still in beta mode, it’s obvious that FutureLearn will eventually have one of the best free online course catalogues. Online education truly is the future, and FutureLearn is on the cutting-edge of the exciting new way of appreciating and furthering academia.
