Super Pixel Quest: Web Comic By Emmanuel Espinasse

Super Pixel Quest is a web comic that takes a unique approach to both storytelling and design.

A Throw-Back, Pixelated Style

Super Pixel Quest is a web comic created by French designer Emmanuel Espinasse. The site is reminiscent of early-era, pixelated video games, as the character wanders through a world that wouldn’t have been out of place as a haunted house level in Super Mario. Unlike video games, however, the web comic isn’t interactive. The character moves either forward or backwards into new panels that appear in the browser as you click on either arrow.

A New Approach to Web Comic Design

Super Pixel Quest tells a lengthy story about the character traversing the building that continuously reveals new rooms as you click through the panels that fill your browser. I wont ruin the overall story, but there are several well-animated and/or funny parts that it’s worth clicking through. The site is one of the most inventive forms of storytelling I’ve seen online in quite some time, and it’s exciting that web comic creators are attempting new approaches and styles.
