Scroll through your Story.
One Hero is an online, interactive graphic novel that uses technology to create a unique, powerful new form of storytelling. The site is designed in the darkly cartoonish style of a traditional comic book, but instead of turning pages readers simply have to scroll down the screen. An intense soundtrack plays in the background to heighten the experience. The story is told in second-person, so it centers around you (“The Hero”), a man that wears a Canadian Maple Leaf hat and is fighting against a villain that has released mutated humans throughout the city. The story is broken up into chapters, each of which contains awesome action sequences and unique methods of storytelling.
An Interactive Experience.
The best part about reading a story online such as One Hero is the interactive element. Towards the beginning of the story, you’re instructed to “arm yourself” by putting on a helmet and other armor found in your closet. You do so by dragging and dropping the clothes onto the character’s body. Other times throughout the story, you can receive upgrades by typing in your email or completing other prompts. This gives the experience a video game-like feel while still maintaining its comic book nature. I wont spoil the ending of the story, but One Hero is definitely one of the most unique reading experiences I’ve had online, and it’s worth checking out for fans of superheroes, comic books, video games, and all forms of innovative storytelling in general.
