Super Bowl 46 Ads – Well it’s all over. The Giants took the big crown at the Super Bowl. But a much more important question perhaps, is which company took the crown for the best commercial!? Youtube AdBlitz allows us lucky viewers to watch our favorite ads from the game as many times as we want, and to vote on our favorites. And remember, at over $2million for a 30 second slot, this was once again a real opportunity for advertising companies to really get creative with their clients’ products.

Food Pairing – Chocolate & Chili: Yay or nay? It would appear the great chefs of the world are bored with the usual food combinations we’ve come to expect (fish ‘n’ chips anyone?). They’re exploring ways to make our culinary experiences more interesting, diverse and tasty; pairing foods, ingredients and flavors that we never knew could go together. And FoodPairing is at the forefront of this tasty trend.

Food Pairing is a great looking, interactive website created lovingly by the chefs and food scientists at research company ‘Sense for Taste’. It generates a dynamic ‘FoodPairing Tree’ for any ingredient, with all the possible flavor combinations that would go well with that ingredient circling around it. The closer another ingredient is to it in the tree, the better the combination will taste! Below is a tree for cucumber. You can see that Beijing roast duck goes slightly better with cucumber than country ham, because it’s positioned closer to the center, but they would both still work as flavor combinations! It’s currently being used by more than 200,000 professional chefs, food enthusiasts and mixologists per year, so if it’s good enough for them, imagine how impressive you’re going to look with your imaginative recipes at your next dinner party! This may actually be the nicest place on the internet! I don’t want to give too much away about it… All I’ll say is that first, you need the sound on (or headphones in if you’re having a break at work); and second, make sure your internet is quick enough to play short Youtube videos.

DonorsChoose.org is an innovative online nonprofit that makes it easy to help fund great learning projects for kids in some of the US’s poorest public schools. It’s a great system, allowing you to make a specific donation according to what projects teachers are asking for on the site (which also means it can be as big or as small a donation as you would like to make). And with causes being sorted into locations, subjects, resources and categories such as ‘Most Urgent’, ‘Lowest Cost, and ‘Highest Poverty’, the donating process couldn’t be easier.

The projects being funded by guys ‘n’ gals like you or me range from touchscreen learning on tablet PCs, to essential textbooks, to transportation for a school dance team to a live performance. Literally anything. And each request is a very personal one by a teacher or his or her students. So that means that if you’re teaching in a public school and you would really love to improve your kids’ education, you gotta get your cause onto this site!
