The Design Inspiration – The Design Inspiration is “The freshest and best quality design inspiration for you daily,” created by a group of designers who browse the net, searching for various inspirational designs every day. The Design Inspiration’s rationale is to publish and share what inspires their team with the rest of world. Here you can find the best logos, illustrations, websites, photos and patterns created by talented designers all around the globe. My favorite one is 40 Clever Advertising Campaigns of McDonald’s. Regardless if you’re in the design industry or not, this is the perfect place to inspire yourself.
Crazy Go Nuts 2 – Shoot your squirrel out of the cannon to collect as many nuts as possible. Collect stars or hit birds and hidden baddies to boost your multiplier. You can even catch him on fire to clear out the board in one shot. For daily updates, follow us on facebook.
HighlightCam – Want your own security camera, pet-cam or baby surveillance? More importantly, wouldn’t you prefer a visual playback which shows you only the interesting parts without the nuisance of going through hours of recording? I certainly would. If you feel the same, HighlightCam might be of interest to you. HighlightCam is a webcam video service that automatically finds the best parts of your videos – and shows you just those action-filled segments. HighlightCam makes it easy to find where and when your cat did a back flip or a burglar broke into your house. For every hour of video you record, HighlightCam will automatically generate a highlight video of a minute or less.
The best part about HighlightCam is that it’s Internet based and your webcam can be accessed from anywhere as long as you have access to a computer with an Internet connection. One additional cool feature this provider offers is the motion alert – they’ll send you an email notification when they detect motion above a certain threshold. Catch thieves in the act! This way, if anything unexpected happens while you’re away, you have more maneuverability and a greater reaction buffer so you can do something about it before it’s too late.
SlashFilm – Slashfilm is a movie news and review blog created by Peter Sciretta, created by film geeks for film geeks. If you like movies and get a kick out of discussing, ranting and raving over movies of the past and present, this is the place for you. I especially enjoyed these two posts, The Top 10 Movies of All Time – even though I don’t agree with all of the movie choices here. If I was to choose the top ten, my list would definitely include The Shawshank Redemption, Scarface and Pulp Fiction (see below related scenes). Another post I really enjoyed was Quentin Tarantino’s Top 20 Movies To Be Released Since He Became A Filmmaker.
weRead – weRead is a community for book lovers. Whether you love classics or popular fiction; whether you love Dickens or Dan Brown. weRead is a place where you can find others who share your reading tastes, and through them you can discover new books that you will love. On the same note, have you read The Jane Austen Book Club book or watched the movie? At any rate, if you were thinking of joining a Book Club, weRead should be one of your top choices since it has a great Book Club search tool. By the way, if books are what your soul desires, I would also recommend checking out AllMyFaves’ Books faveline.
Aardvark – While there are numerous Q&A services online, it is not always easy to get that reliable answer you’re craving for, particularly when you need it. Aardvark tries to take this concept to the next level by connecting curious people on one end with knowledgeable folks on the other. Through a choice between a variety of mediums (IM, email, SMS, GoogleTalk or Facebook), Aardvark users play both roles of the inquiry business; when you sign up, you ‘declare’ areas and fields in which you have experience and knowledge. This way the service knows what questions to refer to you for help, when others post their why’s, who’s, what’s and where’s.
I use this service via GoogleTalk and I must say, I’m extremely pleased. Once I submit a question, it takes about 2-4 minutes for the first answer to arrive, and it’s interesting to get concrete replies by people from all over the world. And if you don’t know the answer to a certain question, you can always refer Aardvark to someone who does. I encourage you to give this great service a try.
Probably Bad News – Probably Bad News is a collection of journalism gone wrong. It is a mash-up of odd news mistakes; the obvious ones are typos, but there’s more. It may be grammatically correct headlines which, when read as a whole, immediately give you the impression that something’s up or just plain ridiculous. Who should be blamed for it? I guess the editor, but this site isn’t looking into pointing fingers. On the contrary, it wouldn’t have existed if it were not for these small and funny mistakes. Below are some of my favorites.
Freshome – Freshome’s main mission is to inspire you and give you ideas that can make your home a better and more aesthetic place to live in. On Freshome you can find all kinds of stuff they hope will inspire you, such as beautiful pieces of furniture, the latest home architectural news, home gadgets, tips and tricks for improving your living environment. I was blown away by their bathroom section – I found it most interesting, full of innovative designs. Below are additional designs I found inspiring:
Doodurls – Do you doodle? I guess you do, everyone doodles every once in a while – at school, during a boring meeting at work or my favorite, during a phone conversation. Doodurls wants to see your doodles and share them with the world. Submitting your doodles is easy: Snap a picture of it or scan it, then simply upload it to Twitpic or Flickr, and then tweet the link to @doodurls. That’s it. Below are two doodles I really liked.
Desktopography – I turn on my computer at least once on a daily basis, and what I see on my desktop gives me inspiration for the entire day. I like changing my desktop picture often, depending on my mood or goals that week. The Desktopography project began in 2005 as a non-profit platform for downloading nature / topological themed wallpapers, edited and wonderfully manipulated by selected designers. Desktopography offers a wide range of wallpapers, so the only thing left for you to do is to choose your fave wallpaper and simply enjoy it. My current desktop background is this one (see below).
The Dead Photos – Does Tom Phillips have an issue with the dark side of life, i.e., death? Probably, otherwise he wouldn’t have created a website dedicated to the subject (dah…). Even though I searched for the purpose or reasoning behind this exhibition, I couldn’t find a textual explanation. But, as art often is, the Dead Photos exhibition is one which is open to interpretation. Want a glimpse? See the picture below which has an ironic twist as it has to do with the Dead Sea.
CycloManiacs – Compete against 20 riders, unlock 26 levels and 70 achievements! Have you got what it takes to beat the Moon Haddock and become the Cycle Champ? I enjoyed this game a great deal. It is well-designed and it reminded me of my childhood days as a BMX rider, riding on dirt roads while listening to Queen’s Bicycle song… For additional cool daily games, follow our AllMyGames facebook fan page.
