Earth 350 Art – A climate-focused art exhibition that can be seen from space – that’s the underlining concept of the amazing large scale art of Earth 350, initiated by 350.org. It is “the first-ever global scale group show on the front line of climate change—our polluted cities, endangered forests, melting glaciers, and sinking coastlines.”
Taken via satellite, each of the photos showcased here are awe-inspiring and poignant, and the entire exhibition’s timing intentionally overlapped the UN’s climate meetings in Cancun as a means of voicing the need for a tougher strategy to tackle climate change. I have never seen anything quite like it. See one of my favorite works below, the “Climate Elephant” by Daniel Dancer, New Delhi, India. There are many others right here. Enjoy.
Forgotten Bookmarks – The anonymous person behind this unique and engaging blog explains what Forgotten Bookmarks is about: “I work at a rare and used bookstore, and I buy books from people everyday. These are the personal, funny, heartbreaking and weird things I find in those books.”
Here is but one example of the oddities found in books people used to own. In this case it’s an old Palmolive Soap ad found in The Bounty Trilogy by Charles Nordhoff and James Normal Hall. Published by Little, Brown, 1962.
As Good As Gold – You are co-starring in this action packed movie trailer, right next to Benicio Del Toro and the lovely Caroline Correa, directed by Bryan Singer. What is the movie about? Oh, just Magnum Gold ice cream…
Upload a photo of yourself or use your webcam to make the experience complete, and see yourself in this cute trailer alongside Hollywood’s hottest stars. Enjoy.
Snail Bob – Sure, he’s slow, he’s a snail! But other than that he’s counting on you to clear his path and make sure he finds the Exit every time. Point and click on levers, buttons and other devices that help Bob get from one point to another.

Minus – It was Leonardo Da Vinci who said that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, and in the case of Minus this couldn’t be more true. This amazingly simple free service let you create photo galleries in just one click – simply drag photos from your desktop or anywhere else on your computer to the Minus tab (browser mode), and use the short link Minus assigns to you to share your gallery with friends. That’s it.
Why the name Minus? Well, creators Carl and John wanted the name of the service to embody its minimalistic approach, so there you go. By the way, Minus promises that very soon it will offer the option of adding docs, music and videos to your Minus gallery, not just photos. Once these are possible Minus will be my 1st choice content sharing tool. The screen shot below shows a glimpse of my photo gallery on Minus. Click on it to see the rest of the pics.
Academia.edu – This marriage between academic research and social networking is a didactic match made in heaven. Academia.edu allows academics all over the world to “follow the latest research in their field.” Once you have created your own profile (it’s free!), you can invite your colleagues over, decide which researchers you would like to follow, upload papers you have published, lectures you have given, even posts and status updates you have posted.
When you think about it, Academia.edu’s added value is huge: the free service allows each researcher (regardless of rank) to create their own web page listing all of their material. The viewing and downloads of these, along with key search words people use online to search for any researcher can be tracked via Academia.edu’s system. This is phenomenal and all for a great cause: sharing and expanding the dialogue of research all over. Great job, Academia.edu team! I’ve created an account based on my B.A. major, Anthropology. Here’s a screen shot of it.
Daily Infographic -The sharp rise of infogrpahics (short for information graphics) attests to the growing trend of consuming complicated data in a visual way, which makes the understanding part both fast and more memorable, as opposed to simple numerical statistics. Infographics are particular handy when it comes to complex processes (such as financial, geo-political scenarios, etc.). Daily Infographic vows to post an interesting infographic every day, and they certainly keep that promise.
What kind of infographics will you find on this Weekly Blog winner? See the two interesting posts below, 16 Facts About Sleep and Colors of the Web. Enjoy.
AMF’s Happy Holidays – I’ve already talked about this super holidays page on several occasions these past weeks, mostly as the ultimate hot deal grabbing page, and a good source for gift ideas (again, I recommend checking out the For Her and For Him categories). But the All My Faves Holidays page is not only about gifts, it’s also about making this holiday season a great time for family moments.
Cooking for the holidays is a special occasion in and of itself, and that is why you’ll find on this Holidays page amazing recipes resources and great cookbooks – under Cooking. Other great favelines to check out for good holiday times are Hanukkah & Kwanzaa, and Holiday Spirit. Both are packed with holiday goodness for the different religious holidays, for the entire family. So if you haven’t already, stop by the AMF Holidays page and be inspired! You’ll find all your holiday must haves -weather gifts or experiences- right here.
Happy Holidays from the All My Faves Team!
20 Things I Learned About Browsers & The Web – Google sure knows how to pack each of their projects with creativity, interest and a taste for more. This project, published by the Google Chrome Team, cleverly makes the user feel as though he or she is reading a cute and engaging book, telling the story (in simple terms) of the Web, how it works, and explaining relevant key terms (such as cloud computing, web apps, HTML5 and more).
The beautiful illustrations you’ll find as you read along are simple yet super adorable, and they add to the overall look and feel of the 20 Things I Learned project (illustrations by Christoph Neimann).Reading the book from start to finish will take you less than an hour, and it will give you a solid idea of what and where the Web is today.
GeoEye – Here’s how GeoEye describe themselves: “GeoEye, Inc. is a premier provider of superior satellite and aerial imagery, location information products and image processing services. Our products and services enable timely, accurate and accessible location intelligence that translates into timely and vital insights for our customers, anywhere and at any time.”
Although this sounds very corporate-y, it’s super cool to know the GeoEye uses an actual satellite to take these amazing pictures. I’d just skip right to the website’s gallery section (over 100 amazing images!) and then you’ll understand why GeoEye is so great at what it does. I’ve included two images that blew me away: Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Africa, and the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. I highly recommend reading the annotation accompanying each image. Click the images and you’ll get their respective page plus annotation.
ShelterPop – Another great blog from AOL Lifestyle, ShelterPop is here to make your home and everything within it, as wonderful as possible. The blog offers ideas, inspirations and how-to’s in numerous categories, including per-room suggestions, famous homes, design & architecture, storage & cleaning, gardening, fun stuff (crafts, parties, etc.), experts and video.
Like all Aol’s other blogs, it’s really fun to explore the various content offered on ShelterPop. Each section is armed with the right amount of images and commentary to persuade you to do something at home. My favorite post on ShelterPop is 8 Easy Bathroom Updates on a Budget.
