We Choose the Moon – 40th Anniversary of Man landing on the Moon

We Choose the Moon – Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. Launched on July 16, 1969, it carried Mission Commander Neil Alden Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins, and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin Eugene ‘Buzz’ Aldrin, Jr. On July 20, Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon, while Collins orbited above them. We Choose The Moon is a website honoring 40 years of this precious accomplishment by recreating it on the Web. This is nothing short of terrific – the site tracks the capsule’s route from Earth to the moon in real time (with a 40-year delay of course). By the way, did you know that Armstrong flubbed his historic ‘one small step’ remark? For the full story behind it, click here. Just for kicks, below is the historic TV broadcasting of the original majestic moment for you to enjoy.
