List25 combines the pursuit of interesting and intriguing facts with the innate human desire to rank and list things.
There are plenty of listicle blogs on the web. Buzzfeed has made a fortune on our seemingly unquenchable list for reading articles that rank things in order of importance. List25 is a site that does just that, but it also aims to inform and educate. The site consists entirely of list-based articles, all of which contain a total of 25 items. Unlike more content-hungry publications, List25 aims to deliver “lesser-known information on a variety of subjects.” The site’s creator’s also have a simple reason for using a higher number than usually found in listicles. “It’s 25 because we don’t like top 10 lists,” founders Syed Balkhi and David Pegg wrote in the site’s About section.
Like any list-based site, it’s easy to get lost in the entertaining posts on List25. The posts truly do cover a broad swath of subjects, with headlines like “25 Most Dangerous Dog Breeds,” “25 Most Expensive Yachts Ever Built” and “25 Fast Food Menu Items That Failed Miserably.” Even the main categories of the site — “Bizarre,” “History,” “Science” and “Travel” — are atypical. Of course, there are also additional, more specific categories. The “Miscellaneous” section often contains the best content. No matter your personal interests, it’s likely you’ll find something interesting to learn about on List25. It’s a simple site, but it’s designed to keep you coming back for more.
